Michigan reports 40,692 new COVID-19 cases, 259 deaths over 2 days

The Michigan health department reported 40,692 new coronavirus cases over a two-day period Friday, an average of 20,346 per day, bringing Michigan to 1,636,611 confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Another 259 coronavirus-related deaths were also reported Friday, 136 of which were identified in a regular vital records review. This increases the state's COVID-19 death toll to 27,822.
