CDC to recommend some vaccinated people wear face masks indoors again amid COVID uptick

The New York Daily News - 7/27/2021

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are expected to recommend Tuesday that some vaccinated individuals should wear masks indoors again, reversing a previous relaxation on face coverings amid an uptick in coronavirus infections across the country.

Dr. Rochelle Walensky, the director of the CDC, was expected to elaborate on the new guidelines in a media briefing Tuesday afternoon, a source familiar with the matter said.

The specifics of the new guidelines were not immediately known. It was also not immediately known if the new guidelines will impact the entire country.

The expected reversal comes just two months after the CDC dropped its indoor face mask guidelines for fully vaccinated individuals.

Since then, the highly contagious delta variant of COVID-19 has caused a troubling increase in infections in most parts of the country, including New York City.

There are peer-reviewed international medical journals reporting that the delta variant is capable of infecting fully vaccinated individuals at a higher rate.
