Forum to focus on toxic algae in Canandaigua Lake

Daily Messenger - 11/12/2018

Nov. 12--A community forum on toxic blue green algae blooms in Canandaigua Lake will take place Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. at Canandaigua Middle School, 215 Granger St.

The event sponsored by Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association and the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Council will highlight local initiatives to monitor water quality and build resiliency in the watershed in the face of toxic algae blooms.

This summer, Canandaigua Lake experienced a harmful algae bloom that led to detectable levels of toxins being found in the drinking water supply from the Rushville water plant serving residents in Rushville and Middlesex.

Rebecca Gorney, Anthony Prestigiacomo and Lloyd Wilson will discuss the results from recent monitoring efforts, factors that influence algal blooms, and local efforts to protect water resources. A Q&A session will follow the forum.
