BRIEF: 438,960 pounds of frozen chicken recalled after consumer finds metal pieces

Sept. 10--A company has recalled 438,960 pounds of frozen, fully cooked chicken products after a consumer reported finding metal pieces in the food.

Wayne Farms, LLC, is a company headquartered in Decatur, Alabama. The food manufacturer ships frozen, ready-to-eat, fully cooked chicken products nationwide to distributors, restaurants and further processing locations, according to a USDA news release.

A customer reported the metal pieces to the company on July 27. Wayne Farms investigated the complaint and notified the Food Safety and Inspection Service on Sept. 4.

"There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions or injury due to consumption of these products," the news release stated. "Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider."

FSIS officials said people who have any of this products in their fridge or freezer should throw them away or return them.

The St. Clair County Health Department website confirmed these products have been distributed in Illinois.
