The Herald-Mail - 5/15/2018

FREDERICK, Md. - The Department of Solid Waste Management (DSWM) will sponsor a household hazardous waste drop-off event for residents of Frederick County, Md., from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 19, at the public safety training facility, 5370 Public Safety Place in Frederick.

The location has not changed, but the street address was formerly listed as 8349 Reichs Ford Road.

The event provides an opportunity for appropriate, safe disposal of household items that contain hazardous components. Only Frederick County residential waste is accepted; no business waste is permitted. There is no charge for residents to dispose of hazardous items that day.

County residents may bring household materials such as compact and tube fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts; rechargeable batteries (not alkaline); flares; fuels; thinners; stains; sealants; solvents; insecticides; pesticides; fungicides; household cleaners; pool chemicals; mothballs and photographic chemicals. Materials will be processed by a contractor for safe disposal.

Items not accepted include paint; medicines and biomedical waste; firearms; ammunition; explosives; fire extinguishers; freon tanks and radioactive materials.
