Vegetable products recalled over possible listeria contamination

Patriot-News - 11/4/2019

A wide range of vegetable products sold to retailers in the United States have been recalled because of concerns about potential listeria contamination.

Mann Packing Co. has voluntarily recalled the products “out of an abundance of caution” although no illnesses have been reported.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the products have a “best if enjoyed by date” of Oct. 11, 2019, to Nov. 16, 2019.

More than 100 vegetable products are in the recall including: Del Monte Better Break Green Chili, Better Break Pomodoro and Better Break Summer Corn; HEB Organic and Hungryroot products’ Kroger Organic green beans; and Mann’s products including broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, carrots, corn, cabbage, kale, sweet potato, tomato and vegetable trays.

You can view the entire list of products here.

According to the Mann website, their products are sold locally including at Giant, Weis and Price Rite.

According to the FDA, “Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.”

Anyone who has any of the products in the recall should dispose of them.
