Publix issues recall for white American cheese over concerns of possible ‘foreign material’

South Florida Sun Sentinel - 10/13/2019

Got cheese?

If it’s American and you bought it from Publixbetween Oct. 3 and 11, you might want to make sure it’s not wrapped up in a food recall issued by the supermarket chain on Friday.

Publix Deli White American Cheese, made by Great Lakes Cheese, might contain “foreign material,” Publix said in its recall notice.

The cheese, sold at the deli counter in all Publix stores, might have been used in custom-ordered sub sandwiches between Oct. 3 and 11.

No further information was provided on exactly what the “foreign material” might be.

“As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves,” said Maria Brous, a Publix spokeswoman. “Customers who have purchased the product in question or custom subs made with the product in question may return the product to their local store for a full refund.”

Customers with questions can call Publix at 800-242-1227.
