First flu case for Coconino County 2019-20 season confirmed

Arizona Daily Sun - 10/11/2019

Oct. 10--The first case of influenza for the 2019-2020 flu season has reached the county, Coconino County Health and Human Services (CCHHS) officials confirmed. The individual has recovered from the illness.

County officials are reminding residents to receive the flu vaccination. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends yearly flu shots for everyone 6 months old and over.

"Influenza can be a serious disease. Even healthy people can get very sick from the flu and then spread it to others," CCHHS Director and Chief Health Officer Thomas Pristow said in a statement. "The first confirmed flu cases of the season are an important reminder for everyone to get vaccinated to protect themselves and to protect others."

Flu shots are available by appointment from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays at the Flagstaff CCHHS Clinic, 2625 N. King Street. Walk-ins are accepted when available. Standard flu vaccinations cost $30 and high-dose vaccinations cost $50. The County will bill people's insurance company, if possible, but people are asked to check with their insurance provider about coverage beforehand and to bring their insurance card with them. No one will be denied services if unable to pay.

To make an appointment, call 928-679-7222. For more information, visit www.coconino.az.gov/health.
