Kane County health officials push flu shots after 3-year-old girl dies in Aurora

Chicago Tribune - 1/10/2019

Jan. 10--Kane County health officials are urging people to get flu shots after a 3-year-old girl died from flu-related complications last month at an Aurora hospital.

The child died on Dec. 21 at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora. The death was disclosed this week by the Kane County Health Department and the coroner's office.

The death is the first flu-related death in Illinois this year. Last April, a 5-year-old girl from Carpentersville died from complications of the disease.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say the risk from flu is currently high in Illinois. It is one of 24 states designated by the CDC as having widespread flu activity.
